Sunday Song {Keep Making Me}

This song is most definitely my heart song this week, month, year.

I am in a season of idleness. I feel like I am just waiting for something. I am not being active and I can feel God nudging me to draw closer to Him. That is the beautiful thing about our God He never pushes, just nudges. I don't feel like drawing closer to Him because it is the "christian" thing to do or that I feel guilty that I am lackluster in this area; more like a long lost friend sending me text or note saying "hey, remember me?! I would like to hang out with you again."

So "'Til you are my ONE desire, 'Til you are my ONE TRUE Love, 'Til you are my breath, My everything, Lord, please keep making me..." Amen.

"Keep Making Me"
Sidewalk Prophets.
Make me broken
So I can be healed
‘Cause I’m so calloused
And now I can’t feel
I want to run to You
With heart wide open
Make me broken

Make empty
So I can be filled
‘Cause I’m still holding
Onto my will
And I’m completed
When you are with me
Make me empty

[Chorus:]
‘Til You are my one desire
‘Til You are my one true love
‘Til You are my breath, my everything
Lord, please keep making me

Make me lonely
So I can be Yours
‘Til I want no one
More than You, Lord
‘Cause in the darkness
I know You will hold me
Make me lonely

[Chorus]

Sunday Song {Forgiveness}

Forgiveness is something Christ is constantly molding in my life.
He is constantly bringing me to a place to test it, to sharpen it, to understand it.

Once upon a time I was the most unforgiving, unyielding, dare I say spiteful, girl there was. The thought "mean girl" comes to mind. Not in that horribly nasty way you see in the movie, no no I was much more subtle.

I want to pause right here and just say for the record I am glad I am saved, I am glad Jesus got a hold on my heart because some of the mean things I can think to do to people and most likely get away with when they wronged me are just well... WOW. But I am saved from that and Jesus does have a firm grasp on my heart and mind and through HIS power keeps me from my sinful side.

I have been hurt a few times in my life. Who hasn't?! However, 3 situations spring to mind in which I was utterly and completely devastated. I am a friend. As "mean" as I can be I am equally just as fiercely loyal, which is probably why I can flip the script so easily. When I am in your corner good or bad you never need to fear that I would betray you, I will stand up for you, even when it is hard. Because that is who.I.am.

Evidently, I seem to make friends with people who don't seem to feel the same sense of fierce loyalty that I do. The details don't matter, but I was hurt and in all of those instances I hurt back.

During the first 2 situations I was unforgiving, unyielding and very very angry. How dare they do this to me after all I did for them! Was my victim cry.

It was years later that it {or rather Jesus' leading} that I learned forgiveness isn't about getting an "I'm sorry" from the person who hurt you. It's about you letting go of the pain and forgiving them anyway. Because at the end of the day the only one punished is you. Someone wise once told me "That by holding onto the anger and bitterness, you are hoping that the poison of that will HURT the ONE that HURT YOU!"
It is never going to hurt them. You are drinking the poison "kool-aide".

Finally, when the 3rd situation struck while it was not handled well at first by me, I realized I had to offer forgiveness right away. I never want to be in that place again. Angry and bitter. They are really unbecoming qualities. Was is it easy to do it so quickly? No!! It was hard and in some ways I had to swallow that forgiveness pill every.single.day. for months. After several months it wasn't so hard and I only had to swallow it once in a great while. Some days it still bubbles up---that is Satan trying to rob me of my joy, trying to get me to destroy myself.

Often I think people mis-understand forgiveness. I use to. I use to think that you had to forgive AND forget. I mean isn't that what people say all the time? Yes. But they are wrong. You will never be able to forget, especially if it involves losing a loved one, but you can still forgive. Forgiveness doesn't equal go back for more, it simply says "I am not going to hold this over you. I am not going to carry this burden around as excess baggage." Depending on the situation, you may be able to salvage the relationship. It will be different for sure, but nonetheless it may be salvageable. Other situations may warrant never returning to that relationship. Only you can make that decision.

But one thing I always keep in the forefront of my mind is that Jesus BLEED for our forgiveness. If anyone in this world didn't have to take on a punishment for our wrongs it would be Jesus, but He did it for us and there is NOTHING. NOTHING on this Earth that someone can do to us that can't be forgiven. If we want to be like Christ then be like Christ and forgive. That is why you see families of victims forgive the drunk driver, or murderer because they get it. They get they can't live in that realm of anger.

I say this all today because I still struggle with it. Most days I don't think life is fair. I look around and it seems like the nice guy does finish last and cheaters do in fact win. That makes me angry. I still find myself in a place where I am giving and caring to others, even to the point of biting my tongue until it bleeds just to keep the peace. When others in my life don't seem to exhibit the same courtesy to me.

One night I just poured this all out to my Heavenly Father. Think pouty pms-al toddler tantrum. Complete with crossed arms and pouty lip. I was/am sick of always being the bigger person--where is MY reward for being the "good" one?!

Ah, then the answer came--as I should have suspected. The answer was as audible and real as anything. It was as if God came down scooped me up onto His lap and said "Michele, I know that life isn't fair on this Earth. It never will be because it is a broken world. You are not guaranteed rewards on this Earth for your works." Then as though He squeezed me tight and wiped away my tears, He pulled my chin up to meet His eyes and finished with "Your reward, dear, lies in Heaven. Not Earth. Be patient. Don't give up doing what is right and what I have called you to do just because you haven't seen the fruits from it yet. I am keeping track."

And just like that I knew. One of those "I hate it when you are right" moments.

Which brings me to this week's Sunday Song. {Which I know I have missed several weeks of, but trying to get back on track.}

Forgiveness. I think these songs both say it best. Take a moment to listen, to pray and see what you can let go of that you are still holding on to. Don't drink the poison hoping the one who hurt you will feel it. They won't. Let it go. Give it to God. You deserve JOY!

I like this one because of the rap nature of the song. I married a wanna be "gansta" what can I say. HA!

Matthew West's version is more mellow. Both hold the same message. FORGIVE.

Sunday Song {You're Here and Everything Changed}

This is a recycled post from last year, but just because it is recycled doesn't make it any less poignant to me. Last year this was my favorite Christmas song and it is definitely still is this year. This song is taking my breathe away more this year than last. Each year I move deeper into the Christmas story, unwrapping {again thanks to our amazing pastor} and savoring it. Our entire faith hinges on this story. If the virgin birth isn't true or real then we might as well just chuck our Bibles and buy into commercialism and "Happy Holidays."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have the Francesca Battistelli Christmas CD.
Love it.
I especially love Your Here.
The song takes my breathe way, just imagining Mary giving birth and holding Baby Jesus.
You ever just go through life accepting the facts and nodding along, but then one day it just hits you like a freight train and you "get it" and really see it for the first time.
That is this song for me. I love a lot of traditional Christmas songs, but our Christian artists have seemed to step it up this year with some newer amazing songs.
The lyrics are below. Drink them in and imagine. This may be easier for a mother and especially mothers of baby boys. If you have boys AND girls, you know there is a difference in how we view them, love them, dream for them and protect them.
Your Here
Hold on now, got to take a deep breath.
I don't know what to say when I look in your eyes.
You made the world before I was born,
And here I am holding you in my arms tonight.
Noel, Noel
Jesus our Emmanuel.
(Chorus)
You're here.
I'm holding you so near.
I'm staring into the face of my Savior,
King and Creator.
You could of left us on our own.
But you're here.
I don't know how long I'm going to have you for,
But I'll be watching when you change the world.
Look at your hands, they're still so small.
Someday you're going to stretch them out and save us all.
Noel, Noel
God with us, Emmanuel.
(Chorus)
You're here.
I'm holding you so near. Oh, oh.
I'm staring into the face of my Savior,
King and Creator.
You could of left us on our own.
But you're here.
You're here.
Someday I'm going to look back on this,
The night that God became my baby boy.
Someday you're going to go home again,
But you'll leave your spirit,
And flood the world with joy.
(Chorus)
You'll be here.
I'm holding you so near. Oh, oh.
I'm staring into the face of my Savior,
King and Creator.
You could of left me on my own.
But you're here.
You're here.
Hallelujah, you're here.
Hallelujah, you're here.
Songwriters: GLOVER, BEN / BATTISTELLI, FRANCESCA
Just pause and think about giving birth and looking in your child's eyes and then realizing that child, is Jesus, God incarnate. HE made this world. HE created  you and now you are holding HIM, so HE could be with us, to SAVE US! Mind blown.
You are staring into those big brown {or blue} eyes and smiling, but all the while knowing He has come to be our Savior. That gives me chills. He "could have left us on our own," but HE CAME.
We are singing Everything Changed at all 6 of our Christmas Eve services. Another song that blows me away. The video nearly brings me to tears (both happy and sad).
Everything Changed
by Eddie Kirkland
by North Point Music
On a night like this on a broken road
she is far from sleep, she is far from home
for a baby's cries tear the still of night
she wonders why
the future was bright and clear; she planned for a wedding day
her daddy would hold back tears giving her hand away
now all her hope and fear in a cradle lay
for a baby came and everything changed
on a night like this many years ago
as she held him close, she had come to know
that a mother's heart could not let him go
and she now knows why
the future was bright and clear with hope and a promise made
the Light of the world was near, choirs of angels sang
heaven's exalted king in a manger lay
cause a baby came and everything changed
when our dreams grow dim and our hearts grow cold
He is never far from our broken soul
Gloria! our God is with us!
Gloria! He has come to save!
Mercy and love now for every generation
for the Savior came and everything changed
Gloria! our God is with us!
Gloria! He has come to save!
Mercy and love now for every generation
for the Savior came and everything changed
 Sometimes we tend to melt Mary and Joseph into the background of Jesus' birth, like they are unimportant bystanders. But watching it play out, well I can't imagine the sacrifice that both made to bring this baby into the world. This isn't today's society where being pregnant out of wedlock is no big thing. It was a HUGE thing in those times. I am fairly certain Mary could have been stoned for such betrayal {being pregnant NOT by her betrothed}. But instead Joseph listen and obeyed God and stayed with Mary. That had to not been easy. I am pretty sure whispers were made as they would have been in today's time, but Joseph never wavered. The courage and faith to listen and follow God's plan and raise Jesus...well that is nothing short of an incredible task.
Then I think about how we all have dreams and hopes for our babies, for their futures. To look at your newborn, that innocent, tiny, fragile newborn and know that HIS future will be death to pay for our sins. Not His, ours. Wow. How? How as a mother do you comprehend that? The faith Mary AND Joseph possessed is incredible to me. Would I have done it?
I just love this whole plan and history of Jesus' birth.
Maybe it took becoming a mother to truly understand a mother's heart and the sacrifices parents make for their babies, even if you baby boy was Jesus.
Thank you Jesus for coming. You didn't have to, you could have left me on my own, but you didn't you came. For me. For us.
I pray everyone finds the true meaning in Christmas this year and everyday.
Merry Christmas!
Sunday Song {Christmas Edition}
So here I sit 1 week later with my grand idea of "Sunday Song" and now Sunday has come and gone.
In my defense this past week was hetic. Sass had adenoid surgery Tuesday morning, I worked Wed, Thanksgiving on Thurs and more work {as in my RD job} on Friday, followed by date night!! {CATCHING FIRE!!! In the balcony--it's a Warren thing} and a migraine to end all migraines on Sunday. There was a moment in there where I contemplated going to the ER for a shot. That means I can't manage any.more. I am a huge faker with my migraines, but Sunday I was begging for Jesus return or healing. Anything really. Of course I sucked it up anyway. It does always make me think of my sister though, she really struggles with migraines on a more regular basis and honestly, I don't know how she survives.
So now that you are caught up on my excuses and sob stories here is this week's Sunday Song. Because in the moments of trial I especially need these words to focus on.
It is the season of Christmas. Christmas is taking on deeper and greater meaning for me in this season of life. As a child it was all about gifts and Santa; which honestly isn't the end of the world. I was a kid. Christmas was about magic. As I grew older I learned more about WHY we celebrated. Jesus' birthday. But now, and all the credit goes to my church and pastor, the WHY has become much deeper. This isn't just about a birthday, it's about the fulfillment of a promise. A promise to SAVE us. This was God's plan finally set in motion. Generations waited and waited. Some losing hope that maybe God "forgot."
Becoming a mom also opened my eyes to a teeny tiny glimpse of what Mary may have felt carrying, birthing and raising our Savior. What an awesome responsibility. I barely feel worthy enough to raise my own babies let alone raise the Savior to the World.
Jesus is the HOPE of our world. Bad things happen all around us, but we can rest assured in our HOPE in Jesus. Redemption began that night. He is our kinsman redeemer! Just picture the angels leaning over heaven waiting for that first cry. The JOY! Just thinking about Christ's birth gives me goosebumps.
I posted 2 songs this week, because I am loving all these Christmas songs. I love how our Christian artists are digging deeper than the generic songs and really giving us a picture of what that night looked like and meant.
Enjoy!
"When Hope Came Down" Kari Jobe
So this is how it was
A silent night like any other,
When heaven sent the one,
The one we will call our savior,
And redemption begins,
In a stable in Bethlehem,
[Chorus:]
All of the angels lifted up their voices,
And filled the night with Hallelujah's,
God is with us now,
Everyone come and join the heavenly chorus,
Our savior King is here before us,
All to hear the sound
The song creation sang,
When Hope Came Down,
So This was truly God,
Wrapped in a tattered blanket,
Love was finally here,
Sleeping while the world awakened,
And redemption begins,
With a baby in Bethlehem,
[Chorus:]
All of the angels lifted up their voices,
And filled the night with Hallelujah's,
God is with us now,
Everyone come and join the heavenly chorus,
Our Savior King is here before us,
All to hear the sound
The song creation sang
When Hope Came Down,
So let us sing Redemption Song,
Let us worship Christ the Holy one,
We were lost, but we were found,
When Hope Came Down,
When Hope Came Down.
[Chorus:]
All of the angels lifted up their voices,
And filled the night with Hallelujah's,
God is with us now,
Everyone come and join the heavenly chorus,
Our Savior King is here before us,
All to hear the sound
The song creation sang
When Hope Came Down,
When Hope Came Down,
Oooo
When Hope Came,
When Hope Came Down.
He Has Come For Us (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen)
Meredith Andrews
God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O, tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O, tidings of comfort and joy
He has come for us
This Jesus
He's the hope for all
Mankind
He has come for us
The Messiah
Born to give us life
From God, our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same
How that Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name
O, tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O, tidings of comfort and joy
He has come for us
This Jesus
He's the hope for all
Mankind
He has come for us
The Messiah
Born to give us life
All the angels sing "Hallelujah!
"Jesus Christ is born!"
All the children sing "Hallelujah!
"He is Christ the Lord!"
He has come for us
This Jesus
He's the hope for all
Mankind
He has come for us
The Messiah
Born to give us life
He is born to giv us life
All the angels sing "Hallelujah!
Jesus Christ is born!"
All the children sing "Hallelujah!
"He is Christ the Lord!"
Sunday Song {Oceans-Where Feet May Fail}
I have had this idea for.ever.
To post a song that touches my heart at the beginning of the week.
To reflect, meditate and dwell on.
Music speaks to me like nothing else ever will. I want to be a great and articulate writer. Unfortunately, I lack the ability to convey my deepest thoughts and feelings that make sense.
When my heart is happy or sad, I find joy, comfort and peace in song. This is what I love most about leading worship. Getting lost in the song. I never see the people starting at me, my heart and soul is in complete and utter worship of our Savior.
I could be having the crappiest day ever and then it all be turned around by one song on Way-FM.
This week my song is Oceans Where Feet May Fail by Hillsong.
The lyrics:
You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand
And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now
So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
[x6]
I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine
1st. Her voice is amazing. Her "haunting" sound takes me to a deep place of worship.
2nd. This song is based on the story of Peter walking out onto the water. Read more HERE.
3rd. Do you ever feel God preparing you, not calling you...yet, but preparing you for something. You don't have the faintest, well maybe an inkling, but it is so unknown and unsure. He is preparing me/us. I love that about God. He doesn't just give you something you can't handle. He prepares you for it, if you are sensitive enough to feel the leading. I find myself declaring
"Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, Let me walk upon the waters; WHEREVER you would CALL ME. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander, and my faith will be made stronger, In the presence of my Savior. Amen."
I know there isn't anything I can't handle as long as I rest in Christ. When I am frustrated, this song is my prayer this week. "I will call upon [HIS] name and keep my eyes above the waves."
